March 21, 2014—The Health Resources and Services Administration today posted[1] its first brief summary of results from 340B covered entity audits it conducted during fiscal year 2013. [ms-protect-content id=”2799″]

HRSA audited 51 340B covered entities in fiscal 2012[2] and 94 in fiscal 2013[3]. It has not said how many it plans to audit this fiscal year, which ends on Sept. 30. HRSA recently announced that it is auditing a drug manufacturer for the first time.

Today, the agency summarized results from 13 of last fiscal year’s provider audits: 6 disproportionate share hospitals, two sexually transmitted disease clinics, a health center, a children’s hospital, a family planning center, a state AIDS Drug Assistance Program, and a critical access hospital. HRSA made no adverse findings in 10 of these audits. It found mistakes in one DSH hospital’s and one STD clinic’s 340B database records. It also found that one DSH hospital dispensed 340B drugs to inpatients and dispensed a 340B drug “not supported by a medical record.” The sanction listed was “repayment to manufacturer.”[/ms-protect-content]
