December 21, 2015—Healthcare providers that can’t obtain 340B pricing on a covered outpatient drug and can’t get satisfaction from their wholesaler and/or the drug manufacturer shouldn’t hesitate to bring the problem to the government’s attention, federal officials say. The Health Resources and Services Administration devoted its last monthly 340B program update column of the year to a how-to on informing the government when a drug that should have a reduced 340B price can’t be bought at that price. The column includes a link to a recently revised sample form for reporting 340B price unavailability.
“Healthcare providers that can’t obtain 340B pricing on a covered outpatient drug should try to get an explanation from their wholesaler and/or the drug manufacturer to find out determine the underlying issue as to why the product is unavailable at the 340B price,” HRSA says in the column. “Then, if the issue is not resolved by taking such action, covered entities are encouraged to bring these occurrences to the attention of HRSA.”
“HRSA thoroughly reviews each notification and communicates back to the covered entity and the manufacturer, if necessary, in an effort to address the issue of the unavailable 340B ceiling price,” the column continues. “HRSA reviews each and every allegation of non-compliance brought to our attention and takes program integrity very seriously – for manufacturers and covered entities. The information provided to HRSA regarding 340B price unavailability assists us in taking the appropriate steps to ensure manufacturers are in compliance with program requirements.” [/ms-protect-content]
